Dry Needling

What is dry needling?

Dry needling is now a commonly used treatment technique by physiotherapists who undertake specialised training, either during University or at a course once they have graduated.

Dry needling is used to treat muscular pain or myofascial dysfunction and has proven to be useful in reducing muscle spasm; inflammation and pain. It does this by eliciting an antihistamine response which increases blood flow and repair cell activation. As well as, desensitising the central nervous system and therefore acting as a "pain gate" for the other neurological messages flooding your system. Finally, it has also shown to have a "happy" affect through the release of endorphins and therefore, another way to decrease the pain to that particular area.

Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is grounded in sound clinical and anatomical knowledge of the musculoskeletal system, we at Fortitude believe that all aspects of the musculoskeletal system need to be considered, this not only includes muscles, but also joints and other bony elements, as well as, considering how all these systems are working together.

If you are not at your optimum health, you may experience aching; sharp, stabbing pains; decreased flexibility; stiffness, just to name a few. However, this is what we are here for! We are trained in assessing; diagnosing and then prescribing the most up-to-date and relevant treatment and exercise programs for your particular injury.

Our wide range of treatment and rehabilitation techniques include:

  • Individual and group exercise programs

  • Joint manipulation and mobilisation

  • Education on injury and treatment plan

  • Soft tissue massage

  • Dry Needling

  • Hydrotherapy

  • Fitting and assisting with the use of aids, including splints, crutches, walking sticks and wheelchairs
